Oh’ Marie and Common Chords

Two Sundays ago I performed at a benefit concert and it was the first time in twenty-five years I played and sang live (through a PA system) and before a live audience.

Needless to say I was a tad nervous especially during breaks on my newfound toy the blues harp.

During the evening I met Michael Del Gardo and was is awe of his musicianship on an instrument I consider, with the violin, one of the hardest to master.

Michael was so smooth on the instrument and I later found out he had been playing since the age of three.

That day I approached him about doing a Common Chords and with some persuading from a few friends, he agreed to give me a shot.

Everything worked for me on this video and I think its the best CC I’ve done.

Also, I like this column because everything is layered with the story, video and still image, all say something different about the artist.

Please let me know what you think.

Go to my Common Chords blog at TheSunNews.com to see an alternate take on the video and hear more songs from my session with Del Gardo.

Counting Crows and Michael Franti

Thursday evening I had the opportunity to cover the local performance of The Counting Crows and Michael Franti and Spearhead at our local House of Blues.

This was the second time I photographed Adam Duritz and the Crows.

The first was in 1996 in Raleigh a few years after their hit song “Mr. Jones” was released.

I do believe they opened for the band Phish that summer evening but my memory escapes me at the moment.

Here is a gallery of images from Thursday’s show.

I sweated a little getting around this crowd but everyone (especially the crew on the front row) was helpful in getting me to where I needed to go.
