The New Canon 5D Mark II and Zola Budd

Using my new Canon photo/video gear, I put this video together of former Olympian Zola Budd training last week at Coastal Carolina University. Luckily, I just added two Canon 5D Mark II cameras that replaced my aging EOS 1D Mark IIs.

So far I like the video features but I wish the cameras had a controllable and movable video monitor, which could be pulled out and adjusted when you shoot low angles.

Another negative is the inability to monitor the sound input when using external mics. On windy days like the day I shot this video that is a big problem.

All in all this is the camera that finally helps me forget the old days of film. The quality of the still images is wonderful and getting back the full use of my lenses with the full-frame sensor is a big improvement.

Thanks Canon for answering my plea for a video/still camera workhorse.

Apple Leopard

So I’ve had Leopard installed on my computer for the last 3 days. So far I like the time machine software and the way you can organize your desktop with very few icons. The new dock with
stacks works great but I’m finding there are not as many features with it positioned on the left side (like I’m use to) as positioned on the bottom.

Sending from location

Here I am with fellow photojournalists Chuck Burton (right) of the AP and Travis Long (left) of the N&O sending feeds from the scene of the beach house fire in Ocean Isle Beach. I’ll post my video later after things calm down.
