Cast member Robert Kerson finds his position during rehearsals of the holiday show “Joy to the World” Holiday on Main Street, Thursday evening at the Theatre of the Republic in downtown Conway. 

I like when surprises happen. With beautiful light and colorful costumes, luck comes to a photographer quite easy. Sometimes when the camera goes off “from the hip” and you get a cool image, you just have to take the gift and run.

This happened to me last Thursday while getting some images for our entertainment weekly.

I like the way the man’s shadow is morphed by the waves in the curtain and the intensity of the light. This was not intended and I will give the credit to a lucky break.

If you noticed, I’ve made a change to the design of my blog. Thanks to Quakemedia.com for offering the free “Tremor” wordpress theme. It’s been a while since I’ve made a change.

Last week I accidentally took this photo while kneeling down to take a shot with my other camera.

I was focusing my attention on head knight Mark Passarello of Medieval Times in Myrtle Beach when I inadvertently tripped the shutter on my short lens camera. This photo is way better than anything I took from the profile.

Does this tell you anything about my skills?

Here’s another photo for my “From the hip” series.

This photo was taken inadvertently last night while getting gear together for coverage of a presidential candidate in Myrtle Beach.
I was going to blog about covering the event but I must admit, this photo is much more interesting than the candidate.

If you must know more about the above-mentioned candidate, read my colleague Lorena Anderson’s blog about the evening. The post is funny and sad and a bit deep cutting in its truthful account of the evening. I think her account holds true for all the presidential candidates I’ve seen the year.

You’re fumbling for your keys, wrestling with your notepad, trying to carry your cameras. You have a sound recorder bag on your right shoulder, video gear and your overnight bag on your left.

Suddenly you hear this sound……

For some reason here’s one I didn’t delete.

I like the idea of accepting small gifts that are not expected, so I’m going to make “From the hip” a category on the blog. We’ll see what the results are……
